Roads and Maritime Services advises motorists Cecil Avenue will be closed at the intersection with Showground Road in Castle Hill from Monday 29 August for up to five nights, weather permitting.
Member for Castle Hill Ray Williams said work is progressing on the $41 million Showground Road upgrade between Carrington and Old Northern roads, which will reduce congestion and increase traffic capacity by providing two lanes in each direction.
“Showground Road is a major arterial providing an important connection between Old Northern Road and Windsor Road at Castle Hill,” Mr Williams said.
“Major work started in May this year to widen the remaining 1.5 kilometre two lane section of road to four lanes.
“The project also includes intersection modifications at Pennant Street to provide additional turning lanes and bus priority measures, new traffic lights at the Rowallan Avenue and Kentwell/Cheriton Avenue intersections and access adjustments at Britannia Road to provide safer traffic movements.”
Utility relocation work is currently under way and to allow work to continue Cecil Avenue will be closed at the intersection with Showground Road for up to five nights between Monday 29 August and Friday 9 September, weather permitting.
The closure will be in place from 9pm to 5am with motorists directed to use Cecil and Cheriton avenues.
Electronic message signs and yellow, road work advisory signs will be placed in the vicinity of the work site to notify motorists of road closures and detours at least five days before work starts.
Property access will be maintained at all times.
Motorists should follow the direction of traffic controllers and allow extra travel time.
